Spain, as with most countries in Latin America, has a wide variety of accents and regional dialects. The Spanish of radio, newspapers, tv, and government in the Castillian variety. Some would call it the purest version of original Spanish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the-spanish-of-the-new-world\"><\/span>The Spanish of The New World<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/latinamericanspanishcafe.com\/category\/slang\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/latinamericanspanishcafe.com\/category\/slang\/<\/a>Latin American Spanish is, of course, derived from the old country but over the centuries, the language has taken on its own forms, slang, and even grammar rules. Think about that last one. By contrast, there are few grammatical differences between US English and British English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"which-dialect-to-learn\"><\/span>Which Dialect to Learn?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Spanish has evolved over the centuries on both sides of the world. Each country&#8217;s version of the language has evolved almost independently. Now with the Internet, there&#8217;s probably less chance of this happening. The world is more global and individual dialects are influenced by the Spanish-speaking community as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to communicate with the most number of people in their own dialect, the obvious choice is Mexican Spanish. Mexico is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world and the official figure of 127 million doesn&#8217;t include native speakers in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many <a href=\"https:\/\/latinamericanspanishcafe.com\/reasons-learn-latin-american-spanish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reasons for learning Latin American Spanish<\/a>. One reason is that it is easier to learn than the language of Spain. That&#8217;s my opinion. Other learners, teachers, and academics might have other opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"main-differences-between-spain-and-latin-american-spanish\"><\/span>Main Differences Between Spain And Latin American Spanish<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Forms of Address<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can forget about Vosotros. A relief for many beginners as dropping the \u201cAll You\u201d plural, informal version of address removes some complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spanish in the mother country uses four forms or modes of address:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>T\u00fa \u2013 Informal You Singular. Used among family, friends, or when addressing children &amp; animals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vosotros \u2013 Informal You Plural. Used when talking with friends or children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Usted \u2013 Formal You Singular. Used when addressing an older person, your boss, or someone important.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ustedes \u2013 Formal You Plural. Used when addressing more than one important person or senior.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Latin American Spanish, on the other hand, does away with Vosotros so we\u2019re left with<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>T\u00fa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Usted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ustedes \u2013 Used to address more than one person in any situation. Easy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In some countries (Argentina, Uruguay,&nbsp;Colombia, Costa Rica) you will come across \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/latinamericanspanishcafe.com\/voseo-in-spanish\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2204\">Vos<\/a>\u2019, which is like T\u00fa. Don\u2019t let that confuse you too much. Vos is even easier to conjugate than T\u00fa so if you must learn it, welcome the change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Le\u00edsmo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll try to make this one as simple as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many Spanish people use le or les when referring to people as a direct object. This is not strictly speaking the correct use of the form. Here\u2019s an example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Le vi a Pablo ayer<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 I saw Pablo yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This sentence uses \u2018le\u2019 to refer to Pablo. This sentence used an indirect object pronoun used to refer to a person (Pablo). The direct object pronoun should be used. e.g. Lo vi a Juan Ayer. In Latin America, \u2018lo\u2019 or \u2018la\u2019 is always used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e7f5fe\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/latinamericanspanishcafe.com\/how-to-use-lo-in-spanish\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Advice on how to use &#8220;lo&#8221; in Spanish.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Spain you might hear both variations. Again, the Spanish from the Americas is a little bit less complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"does-pure-spanish-exist\"><\/span>Does Pure Spanish Exist?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/latinamericanspanishcafe.com\/category\/colombia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colombian Spanish<\/a> spoken in&nbsp;Bogot\u00e1&nbsp;is sometimes referred to as the purest form of Spanish. There\u2019s no real evidence online as to where this piece of information came from. It\u2019s possibly one of those internet myths that spread as one blogger or researcher copies another.
